Book Review "A Skeleton in God's Closet."

Joe suggested that I read this 'Theological Thriller,' "A Skeleton in God's Closet," by Paul L. Maier. Joe rarely reads fiction and he is now on the third book from this author. That, alone, was enough to get me to pick it up.

I was hesitant because I'm finding a lot of Christian fiction the be too syrupy, abundant in cliches, and massacre the context of any Scripture they include. However, he really wanted me to read it, so I gave it a go.

It started out really slowly. Really, really, slowly.

I got to the end of the chapter 1 and my thought was, "If this guy wrote like Dan Brown, he'd have something going for him."

As the story progressed, it got a lot better. The dialog leaves a lot to be desired, so that was a bummer, but the story itself is very compelling. There is action, adventure, theoretical romance (a little hokey for me), great explanations of archaeological tests, faith, loss of faith, and....Opus Dei even makes it in there! Lol.... You can't have a good conspiracy without OD!

I would recommend this if you enjoy a good mystery...it had me guessing through the last chapter, so he did have the bones of a great story...

I'm reading his second book, "More Than a Skeleton." Chapter 1 has promise and the dialogue seems to have improved. We'll see.
